Atiku reacts to Ghana election, 'Should be eye-opener for Nigeria'

The former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has commended how the conduct of the 2020 presidential election in Ghana went. 

Congratulating the winner of the presidential election, Nana Akufo-Addo, in a tweet on Thursday, Atiku said the success of the election should be an eye-opener for Nigeria. 

"Congratulations to President @NAkufoAddo on his reelection. The smooth conduct of the Ghana elections should be an eye-opener to our nation.

"We must undertake far-reaching electoral reforms that address the shortcomings of our previous experiences and strengthen our electoral process." 

This is coming after Nana Akufo-Addo Imcumbent Ghana president won a second term, which the country’s electoral commission announced on Wednesday. 

After beating long-time opponent John Mahama, Akufo-Addo of the centre-right New Patriotic Party (NPP) received 6,730,413 or 51.59 percent of votes while Mahama of the centre-left National Democratic Congress (NDC) received 6,214,889 or 47.36 percent of votes, the commission’s chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa said.
