Unknown gunmen shot and killed Dr Chike Akunyili, the widower of the late Prof. Dora Akunyili.
According to a family source, "Chike Akunyili was shot on Tuesday night near Onitsha," the commercial capital of Anambra State.
"He had gone to Onitsha for his late wife's memorial lecture and was on his way back to Enugu when the incident occurred.
Gunmen assassinated him. "I'm not sure how it happened," the source continued. "IPOB killed my senior brother," Chike's brother, Cyril, wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.
Why? Prof Dora Akunyili's husband has died. "Why on a Tuesday, IPOB?" Later, he deleted the post.
Meanwhile, his wife, a former director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), died on June 7, 2014, at the age of 57, in an Indian hospital after a long illness. From 2001 to 2008, she was the Director General of NAFDAC. Chike and his late wife were the parents of six children.
