Police begin investigation into brutal murder of NTA staff in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Nigeria Television Authority employee (NTA). 

The deceased, identified as Onwukwe Chukwu Obiahu, was stoned to death by unknown assailants in Okene shortly after he left work on Tuesday night, September 7 read here

The body of late Obiahu, who worked at the engineering department of the NTA boaster station in Okene, was discovered along Okene Ogori Magong road on Wednesday morning, September 8.

It was also learned that all of the staff on duty had been arrested and were being interrogated at the Nigeria Police Force Divisional Office in Okene. 

A NTA employee in Okene who did not want his name used confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune. 

"It is unfortunate that we all awoke this morning to learn of the death of one of our colleagues in the engineering department, who was allegedly stoned to death. He left the office after we finished transmission around 10 P.M. on Tuesday. 

"Unfortunately, we discovered his body this morning (Wednesday) that he was killed with stones by unknown people," the source said.

"Because they are prime suspects, all of the personnel on duty have been arrested. The incident has been reported to the police for investigation. 

Obiahu was a gentleman who was dedicated to his responsibilities. He died in a terrible way "the source added. 

DSP William Ovye Aya, a command spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that the police have begun an investigation to determine the cause of his death, arrest, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

If deceased had been provided with adequate cover, I believe what happened should not have happened.
