UniBen students protest over an increase in tuition fees

University of Benin students on Tuesday protested over an increase in tuition fees by the school's management. 

The management had previously announced that students who did not pay their fees within the specified time frame would be subject to additional charges.

It was learned that UNIBEN's management had imposed an additional N20,000 charge for late payment.

Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the school's public relations officer, signed the statement, which stated that "registration by all students closes on 3rd September, 2021; and after such date, students will no longer have access to the school portal."

According to a Student, "School resume 3 weeks ago and increment of school supposed to be before exams but now 3 weeks into resumption 'Madam VC first increase it by N10,000, 100 level students are expected to pay 89,900 before Friday or lose their admission. 

"200-500 level students are to pay between 61,400- 65,400 respectively or lose their studentship and all their years in the school wasted. 

"I weep for Uniben. I'm ashamed to be a student of this school. Great Uniben my foot!!, she said.

Another protesting student said "Into four weeks of resumption you increase school fees by 20k haba!!! person never pay 45k
na 65k e go kon pay???"

Another said, "Do you know that by Saturday anyone who is unable to pay the school fees would be automatically withdrawn from
the school??. And you are still sleeping?? Are we comfortable with all of these?? Are we going to be silenced?? A BIG NO
