Rev Emeka Merenu, a priest of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), was assassinated in his parsonage in Iheteukwa, Orsu Local Government Area, Imo State, by unknown gunmen.
According to a reliable source in the Anglican Church, the Nkwerre-born clergyman was killed this morning over an unfounded allegation that he brought in soldiers to secure the Church and School under his supervision.
According to the source, the assailants burned his car after killing him. “Everyone is sad and afraid for their lives right now,” he said.
"Not only is he from Nkwerre, but he was the second runner up to the current Principal when they were looking for the current principal of St Augustine's Grammar School, Nkwerre, Imo State,” the source explained (SAGS).
"He is from Nkwerre's Amorji Agbomori Village. All attempts to reach the state police spokesperson, Micheal Abattam, for confirmation were futile because he did not take or return calls."
