EFCC arrests Ganduje’s wife over bribery and land fraud case

Hafsat Ganduje, the wife of Kano governor, has been arrested by the EFCC over a bribery and land fraud case reported by her son.

The arrest comes weeks after her failure to honour the anti-graft agency's invitation. Investigators are questioning her over allegations relating to land fraud in a petition by her own son.

She was still at EFCC headquarters as of 6am on Monday, this newspaper learnt.

Recall that, according to sources familiar with the matter, Abdulazeez dragged his mother, Hafsat Ganduje, to the EFCC, indicating a pattern of corruptly using family access to power for private enrichment.

The governor, Mr Ganduje, had previously been involved in a corruption-related scandal.

According to sources who saw Abdulazeez's petition, he reported being approached by a property developer to assist in the acquisition of some plots of land in Kano for hundreds of thousands of dollars and at least 35 million naira as "facilitation commission."
