Okhiria confirmed that part of the rail track was destroyed in an interview with DailyTrust, and blamed the incident on suspected vandals.

"Our rail track was damaged," he admitted, adding that he couldn't confirm whether the incident was the result of a terrorist attack.

The track was destroyed by suspected vandals, he said, adding that vandalism of NRC facilities has been on the rise in recent years.

"So, we've got a problem with the track, and we're working on it." We're working to restore train service, and if all goes well, we should be able to run by tonight (Thursday).

"We ran a train from Kaduna to Abuja this morning (Thursday), but we had to halt operations until the track was repaired," he said.

He stated that an investigation is currently underway to determine what occurred.
