NULGE demands sack of Aba north chairman Ikonne [Justice for Chidinma]

The Abia chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has closed the Aba North Local Government Area (LGA) Secretariat due to staff abuse.

Mr. Ikechi Nwigwe, President of the NULGE Abia Chapter, stated that the secretariat will remain closed until Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu signs off on their request to fire LGA Chairman David Ikonne.

On Tuesday, Ikonne allegedly assaulted Mrs. Chidinma Nwanosike with planks and pipes. NULGE was forced to close the secretariat as a precaution to protect the rest of the employees from attacks by the chairman's political thugs.

The Abia Governor, Head of Service, and other relevant authorities had been informed of the situation by the union.

When contacted, the chairman (Ikonne) denied assaulting the woman. He stated that the union had reported the matter to the Abia Governor, Head of Service, and other relevant authorities, and that the secretariat would reopen once the union was satisfied with Ikpeazu's response.
