We’re not against restructuring, our demand is Biafra, referendum - IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra have said it is not against the restructuring of Nigeria that their demands are simple: Referendum.

Emma Powerful, the secessionist group's Media and Publicity Secretary, revealed this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, Anambra State, on Monday.

The group's main demand, however, was for a referendum on whether "Biafra" should be a part of Nigeria or not.

"One thing the Nigerian government must remember is that IPOB is not opposed to restructuring," he stated. We are not opposed to restructuring, but restructuring is not our desire.

"The restoration of Biafra State is our demand." All we need is a referendum date to decide whether or not to continue with this forced union (Nigeria).

"Those who believe Nigeria is ready for restructuring should reconsider." Those who profit from the current imbalance have rendered reform impossible. They are unlikely to pay attention to the calls for reorganization.

"However, the only thing that can make us slow down a little is if the government sets a referendum date for us." The restoration of Biafra's sovereign state is a divine mission."
