Naomi Osaka knocked out of Australian Open

In the third round of the Australian Open, defending champion Naomi Osaka was surprised by unseeded American Amanda Anisimova.

Amanda Anisimova knocked out defending champion Naomi Osaka 4-6 6-3 7-6[5] to advance to the fourth round of the #AO2022.

On Margaret Court Arena, the Japanese superstar won the first set but lost the match to Anisimova, who won 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10/5).

Anisimova will face world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in the fourth round.

After winning the Adelaide International, the world No. 1 improved to 7-0 on the season and has yet to drop a set, defeating the Italian 30th seed 6-2, 6-3 on Rod Laver Arena.

In a thrilling fourth-round match, she will face either defending champion Naomi Osaka or young American Amanda Anisimova.

"It was a fairly decent performance," remarked Barty, 25, who described it as "clean."

"It was my responsibility to get her off the baseline because of the way she smacks the ball and covers the court... I'm able to make good use of my slice."
