More than 50 birds fall from the sky at Radford University

On the Radford University campus, Thursday was a typical afternoon. That was before something unexpected happened: a flock of more than 50 birds plummeted from the sky.

Karen Powers, a biology professor at Radford University, remarked, "I jumped in the car and drove to school to try and figure out what was going on."

She's also financing a project on bird-window crashes, as luck would have it. This, on the other hand, was not a window smashing incident.

"It turned out to be nothing more than a swarm of birds on the ground. I was heading up to a single sidewalk, and there were about a dozen dead birds to my left and right "Powers stated.

According to Powers, they discovered 55 dead birds in less than an hour. They did find two birds that were alive after being stunned! They were taken to the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center right away.

"Our main goal and mission is to rehab them and reintroduce them to their natural habitat," said Sabrina Garvin, the center's director.

Those birds are now on their way to recovery. It is hoped that they will be released back into the wild as soon as possible.

So, where did it all go wrong? Powers' class has ruled out a couple of alternatives.

"It's not 5G, aliens, or wind farms," Powers explained. The birds may have been poisoned by alcohol, according to their theory.

"This time of year, especially considering we just had a warm period, followed by a cold period, followed by a warm period," Powers explained.

According to Powers, this happens more frequently than you might think. This time, however, it occurred on a bustling college campus.
