The Nigerian Army has described a viral video in which a soldier cries for aid, saying that he was abandoned by his teammates during an operation, as a premeditated attempt by the soldier to hide his cowardice.
According to the Army, preliminary inquiry found that the soldier abandoned his colleagues during the clearance operation in Gurara, Niger State, according to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations.
According to him, the incident was against the Nigerian Armed Forces' standard of operation, and the soldier had published the video to incite public outrage and cover up his cowardice.
The statement read, "Contrary to the claims and impression created by the soldier in the video footage, preliminary investigations have revealed that the video footage was a deliberate attempt to shield himself from being accused of cowardice, having abandoned his colleagues during an ongoing clearance operation in Gurara, Niger State."
