Gov. Tambuwal declares a curfew as crowds riot demanding the release of Deborah Samuel's murder suspects

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto has imposed a curfew in the state to prevent additional bloodshed in the wake of a crowd riot demanding the release of Deborah Samuel's murder suspects.

The governor stated that the instruction was given "in the interest of maintaining peace and order in the Sokoto metropolis and throughout the state."

On Saturday, violent outbursts were reported across Sokoto amid rallies calling for the release of those responsible for the assassination of Ms Samuel on Thursday.

Ms Samuel, a Shehu Shagari College of Education 200-level home economics student, was killed around 9:00 a.m. for allegedly criticizing Prophet Muhammad.

Her assassination has generated indignation across the country, with political and religious leaders calling for the immediate arrest and conviction of all suspects.
