Justice must be done on Deborah’s killing - UN Dep Secretary-General, Amina Muhammed

Amina Muhammed, the UN Deputy Secretary-General, has stated that justice must be done in the lynching and subsequent burning of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto.

In a statement on her official Twitter page on Tuesday, Muhammed demanded justice, saying that religions should not be "misinterpreted to encourage violence."

The post read: "Justice must be done for the senseless, brutal killing of the young Deborah Yakubu in Nigeria. Religions should not be misinterpreted to preach violence when they promote peace.

"My prayers are with the family and for the repose of her soul," it added.

Deborah, a student at the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, was assassinated by a mob on the school grounds on Thursday, allegedly for blasphemy.
