ASUU strike can end tomorrow, lecturers give update

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has stated that if the federal government answers their issues, their industrial action will terminate immediately.

This was said by the president of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday night's episode of Politics Today on Channels Television.

Although it hasn't been officially signed, Osodeke asserted that a deal had been reached with the administration.

ASUU's insistence on adopting their own created payment mechanism, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS), is one of their main demands, in his opinion.

He said, "As far as ASUU is concerned, the strike can end tomorrow.

"We have finished the negotiation. If the government calls us now to come and sign the agreement, we will be there tomorrow.

"Let the government tell us they have finished testing the UTAS and we have accepted it, then we will call off the strike.

"When will they sign the agreement? When will they accept UTAS? Those are the two questions we should ask the Nigerian government," Osodeke said.
