With regard to the results of the national convention and presidential primary on May 28, the Rivers governor has shown signs of strained relationships with the party and its 2023 standard-bearer.
Since the conclusion of the convention several weeks ago, Governor Wike has been fuming, and his rage grew after Mr. Abubakar chose Ifeanyi Okowa as the vice-presidential candidate over him.
Mr. Abubakar stated that while choosing a running companion, competency and loyalty were key factors.
Governor Wike finished second in the primary with 237 votes, falling short of Mr. Abubakar, who received 371 of the 767 total votes cast at the convention center in Abuja.
The governor of Rivers attributed his loss to Mr. Tambuwal's last-minute decision to step aside in favor of Mr. Abubakar, calling the process unfair, even though he did not claim that it was against the party's standing rules.
