UNIBEN staff reportedly ends it all over unpaid salaries in Edo State

Data entry employee Prince Carter Oshodin, a member of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), UNIBEN, apparently ended it all due to his precarious financial circumstances.

According to reports, Prince ended everything on Friday, August 9, after the incident was thwarted by the mess caused by the strike that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, have been on for the past six months without resolution.

The victim allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself because of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration's policy of "no work, no pay," according to reports.

The deceased in 2017 had revealed in a Facebook post that the nonpayment of salaries was negatively affecting him and that he could no longer bear to see his children go hungry, especially with schools set to reopen next week. He felt the pressures were too much on him.

However, eyewitnesses at UNIBEN revealed they had seen the deceased begging for financial support from passers-by before his demise.
