Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members are required to immediately end their eight-month-old strike and resume the in-classroom strike, according to an Abuja-based Court of Appeal.
The appellate court made its decision in response to a request from the lecturers on strike for permission to appeal the National Industrial Court's decision ordering them to return to work.
The three-member panel, presided over by Justice Hamman Barka, ruled that the union's request to appeal the National Industrial Court's decision ordering it to call off its strike will only be granted if the strike is called off.
ASUU was ordered by the court to file its notice of appeal within 7 days and to provide proof that its members have started working again right away.
