Israel Adesanya, a former middleweight champion of the UFC, has reportedly been released after being detained for allegedly passing brass knuckles through security at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

The 33-year-old was detained by Port Authority police on Wednesday in the American Airlines terminal, Strenuousblog reports.

Recall that the 33-year-old lost his title to Alex Pereira by TKO in New York City last Saturday.

In New York, having brass knuckles is a Class A misdemeanor, and having them on an airplane is prohibited. However, it's unclear exactly where Adesanya is said to have kept the weapon.

Marc Raimondi, an ESPN combat sports reporter based in Canada, confirmed his release on his verified Twitter account by citing a statement made on Wednesday by Adesanya's manager Tim Simpson of Paradigm Sports Management.

Israel received a gift from a fan, which he placed in his suitcase, according to the statement. Israel swiftly disposed of the item when it was flagged at the airport and complied with authorities.

"The matter was dropped as a result of his compliance, and he is now on his way home."
