Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has issued Executive Order RVSG-22, which forbids political parties from using residential properties, buildings, and structures as campaign headquarters without permission.
According to Wike, the Order forbade the posting of any documents in unauthorized locations, including bills, posters, or other materials. The statement was signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Chris Finebone.
Wike spoke at the signing of the Order in the Rivers State Executive Council Chamber, denouncing the ongoing vandalism of pricey public facilities, particularly in Port Harcourt, caused by the indiscriminate hanging of flyers, banners, posters, and other unapproved items.
In accordance with Executive Order 22, "any political party or association or body of persons, however called or described, that wishes to use any premises, building, or structure situated in a residential area in any urban area of Rivers State as a campaign office must obtain permission from the Rivers State Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning."
The Executive Order RVSG – 22 came into effect on Friday, 11th day of November, 2022.
Wike had also signed the Order 21 that banned the use of schools and public spaces for political campaigns without the state government approval recently.
