Grant Wahl, an American sports journalist, passed away at the age of 48 while covering the World Cup in Qatar.
ESPN reports that Wahl passed away while reporting the Argentina vs. Netherlands World Cup match.
Wahl reportedly sat backward in the press box at Lusail Iconic Stadium during extra time, and the reporters next to him shouted for help. The reporters said that emergency personnel arrived extremely fast, and they later learned that Wahl had passed away.
Wahl mentioned visiting a medical facility while in Qatar in a post he made on his website on Monday.
Wahl gained notoriety earlier in the World Cup when he said he was briefly prevented from entering the US match against Wales in November because he was sporting a rainbow-colored T-shirt.
At the Ahmed Bin Ali stadium in Al Rayyan, Wahl said that a security commander detained him for 25 minutes before releasing him.
