Prof. Nnenna Oti, the returning officer for the Abia State governorship election for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has admitted that she was given cash inducements to rig the results.
The collation of the results for the Obingwa Local Government Area (LGA) was momentarily suspended by INEC before Alex Oti was declared the governor-elect last Wednesday, causing tension among the electorate and stakeholders in the state.
The disclosure was made by Oti, who also serves as the vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, on Tuesday as he was being greeted by the administration, faculty, and students of the institution.
She claimed that before the results were officially announced, she had been given a sizable monetary incentive to change the wishes and mandate of the Abia people, but she stayed unwavering in the face of severe coercion and threats.
She declared that she would stand by her beliefs and principles, treat everyone fairly, and make sure that the Abia people's will was honored and that their votes were counted in the election.
