In order to stir up debate as he defends a legal action involving the same virtual currency, Twitter's owner Elon Musk changed the company's logo to a crypto coin meme dog.
Currently, when users access Twitter, they are greeted by a dog image as it loads. The Twitter logo in the upper left of the social media giant's homepage has also been replaced by the same dog, a Shiba called Kabosu in real life.
It is the symbol for the digital currency Dogecoin, which Musk is presently attempting to settle a $258 billion (£208) racketeering case over.
According to reports, the plaintiffs alleged that Musk promoted a pyramid scam using Dogecoin, along with other allegations of wire fraud and gambling.
Musk's attorneys submitted a motion to dismiss in Johnson v. Musk et al., a case that was brought in federal court for the Southern District of New York.
According to Reuters, Musk's attorneys contend that the lawsuit never makes clear how anyone was defrauded by Musk's comments in favor of Dogecoin or what risks Musk concealed from investors.
"The Complaint is a fanciful work of fiction that fails to state any actionable claim against Defendants Elon Musk and Tesla and must be dismissed in its entirety with prejudice," the lawyers said
"Mr. Musk posted innocuous and often silly tweets about a cryptocurrency called ‘Dogecoin.’ But there is nothing unlawful about tweeting words of support for, or funny pictures about, a legitimate cryptocurrency that continues to hold a market cap of nearly $10 billion," the Lawyer added.
