Dr. Alex Otti, the governor-elect of Abia State, has denied reports that he invited former President General Yakubu Gowon to the state for his inauguration.
Otti was attacked on Saturday by members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who also whipped up sentiment about the former Head of State's role in the death of late General Aguiyi Ironsi, accusing him of being insensitive to the emotions and psychological well-being of Abians by bringing a man who has not apologized to Abians and Ndigbo.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Apostle Chuks Alozie, Abia State Coordinator Nigeria Prays, reportedly stated that the event had been postponed indefinitely due to unanticipated circumstances and obstacles confronting the organisation.
But Otti, through his Media Adviser, Ferdinand Ekeoma, has come out to debunk the narrative of the PDP members and IPOB publicity secretary, stressing that he (Otti) only received an invitation to a meeting being organized by a Christian body, where Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was listed as Chief Host and Dr. Alex Otti was to receive special prayers from the group.
In reaction to the claim that his principal was behind Gowon's visit to the state, Ferdinand Ekeoma said on his Facebook page:
"It still looks like a bad dream that is about to end, unfortunately for them, it’s not a dream, it’s a reality that continues to gladden the hearts of millions of Abians who have lived in political servitude and undeserved slavery for over two decades now.
"A day hardly passes without them churning out one infantile hogwash directed at the governor-elect, sadly, such puerile pieces of propaganda have continued to expose their emotional vulnerability and subject them to public ridicule."
