Senator Ali Ndume, the Senate Leader, has said that 69 senators-elect have signed up to support the candidature of Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, for the position of Senate President.
Ndume, who is also a senator-elect from Borno State, said that the group, which is known as the Stability Group, is also supporting Barau Jibrin, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, for the position of Deputy Senate President.
Ndume said that the group is confident that Akpabio and Jibrin will win the elections for Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively. He said that the group is made up of senators-elect from all the geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
The election for Senate President and Deputy Senate President will be held on June 9, 2023, when the 9th National Assembly will be inaugurated.
