The Federal Government has recently introduced a new policy mandating all vehicle owners to obtain a Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC).

The policy, set to be implemented in Lagos state from July onwards, requires vehicle owners to renew this certificate annually.

Previously, Nigerians were only required to obtain a Proof of Ownership when purchasing a used vehicle or replacing the engine.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Engr AbdulHafiz Toriola, revealed that the POC policy will apply to all types of vehicles, including motorcycles, tricycles, mini vehicles, saloon cars, trucks, and articulated vehicles used for transportation purposes.

The certificates will contain essential information such as registration details, license plate number, vehicle model, year of manufacture, as well as the owner's name and address.

This new policy will be implemented across all states in the country, and vehicle owners will be required to pay a minimum fee of N1,000 to obtain the Proof of Ownership Certificate.
