Otti discovers 2,300 ghost workers in Abia, saves over N200m monthly

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced that over 2,300 ghost workers have been discovered in the state following an ongoing biometric verification exercise of civil servants and public servants. 

A statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, the state government has saved over N200 million on the monthly wage bill as a result of the verification exercise, according to the State Accountant General, who added that the exercise is still ongoing, and more savings are expected. 

The government has paid the arrears of April salaries and June pensions to retirees, as directed by Governor Otti. The Accountant General Deaconess Njum Onyemenam also assured that local government staff who were skipped during June's salary payment will receive their salaries this week.
