The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced plans to construct a flyover on the Abuja-Lokoja highway as a permanent solution to the perennial flooding on the road.

Umahi made the announcement on Tuesday during a tour of ongoing construction works on the road, a day after his inauguration into office. He was accompanied by the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and some directors in the ministry.

The Abuja-Lokoja highway is a major gateway that links the southwest, south-south, and southeast regions of Nigeria to the Federal Capital Territory and the country's northern parts. It is a critical transportation route for both passenger and freight traffic.

The road has been plagued by flooding for many years, which has caused significant damage to the road infrastructure and led to traffic disruptions. The flyover will be constructed at the Koton Karfe section of the road, which is one of the most flood-prone areas.

Umahi said that the flyover is the only permanent solution to the flooding problem. He estimated that the project will cost around N10 billion and will take about two years to complete.

The construction of the flyover is a welcome development, as it will help to improve the safety and reliability of the Abuja-Lokoja highway. It will also help to boost economic activity in the region.
