Judicial Panel Barred from Investigating Former Abia State Governor and Officials

A Judicial Panel of Inquiry in Abia State, set up by Governor Alex Otti to recover government properties and funds, has been barred from investigating former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his administration's officials.

The Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory granted an interim injunction following an ex-parte application filed by Mr. C. Enuka, a lawyer representing Ikpeazu and three other applicants.

The injunction prevents the panel from summoning, interrogating, arresting, or seizing any property belonging to the applicants or their families related to their tenure as public officers in the Abia State Government between 2015 and 2023.

Governor Otti's media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, stated that they would challenge the court's order as no legitimate government should be hindered from probing alleged illegal or financial misconduct against the state.
