The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates. Patrick Areghan, the Head of Nigeria's Office (HNO) of WAEC, made this announcement in Lagos on August 7, 2023.

Out of the total number of candidates who took the exam, which was 1,613,733, the results of 262,803 candidates are currently being withheld due to reported cases of examination malpractice. This emphasizes the importance of maintaining the integrity of the examination process.

In terms of pass rates, there is positive news. A significant improvement has been observed, with a total of 1,361,608 candidates achieving a pass rate of 84.38 percent. This means that they obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language or Mathematics.

Furthermore, an impressive 1,287,920 candidates, accounting for 79.81 percent of the total candidates, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics. This underscores the significance of these core subjects in the educational journey of students.

As the results are released, it is evident that a substantial number of candidates have demonstrated their dedication and commitment to their studies. The withheld results serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining academic integrity and ethics.

Overall, the announcement of the WASSCE results for 2023 showcases the achievements of candidates while also emphasizing the need for a fair and transparent examination process. It highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure that the education system maintains its standards and continues to contribute to the development of knowledgeable and skilled individuals.
