Ayra Starr Criticizes Headies Awards for Undervaluing Best Female Artist Award

Fast-rising Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has criticized the Headies Awards for undermining the Best Female Artist Award, despite winning it. The 16th edition of the music award ceremony celebrated Afrobeats and African culture, with attendance from various African A-list artists.

Ayra Starr won the Best Female Artist Award but expressed her displeasure with the organizers. Unlike the Best Male Artist Award and others, which were announced on stage, Ayra Starr's win wasn't given that recognition. She used Tiwa Savage and Tems as examples, highlighting the hard work female artists put into the industry.

She argued that female artists shouldn't be treated with such indifference and stated she would not be grateful for winning a category that wasn't announced on stage. Ayra emphasized that Nigeria didn't raise her to settle for less.
