Federal Government Declares Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, September 27, 2023, as a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Oluwatoyin Akinlade, in a statement.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended his congratulations to Muslim faithful both within the country and abroad for the occasion. He emphasized the importance of embracing virtues such as love, patience, tolerance, and perseverance, which were exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister also called on Nigerians, especially the youth, to adopt the values of hard work and peaceful coexistence with people of different faiths, ideologies, social classes, and ethnicities. He encouraged them to collaborate with President Bola Tinubu's administration in building a progressive and exemplary nation that all citizens can take pride in.
