Peter Mbah, who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured the win in the election with 160,895 votes, while Uche Nnaji came in fourth with 14,575 votes.
Nnaji had challenged Mbah's victory, alleging that Mbah, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party, and Frank Nweke Jr. of the All Progressives Grand Alliance were not qualified to contest the election due to alleged violations of asset declaration laws, among other claims.
The Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal had previously dismissed Nnaji's petition on June 20, 2023. Unsatisfied with this decision, Nnaji appealed to the Court of Appeal, which also upheld the Tribunal's ruling and imposed fines of N250,000 each on Nnaji and the APC.
