In a recent development, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the remand of ex-CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele at Kuje Correctional facility. The decision came after Emefiele pleaded not guilty to a six-count amended charge by the EFCC.
During the court session, Emefiele's lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, sought bail, which was opposed by Rotimi Oyedepo representing the Federal Government. Justice Hamza Muazu refrained from an immediate ruling due to the extensive references presented by both parties.
The judge expressed the need to review the cited legal precedents and examine the evidence submitted by Emefiele in support of his bail request. Consequently, he deferred the ruling, requiring additional time for thorough consideration.
Efforts were made to arrange transportation by contacting Kuje prison authorities to transfer Emefiele to the correctional facility, pending the court's decision on his bail application. This ongoing legal process signals a pivotal moment in Emefiele's case, awaiting the court's ruling on his bail plea.
