Everton fined by Premier League
In a significant setback, Everton received a 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules, impacting their league standing and leaving them at 19th place with four points, narrowly ahead of Burnley.
An independent commission imposed the immediate sanction after Everton admitted breaching the PSRs for the period ending the 2021-22 season. The breach exceeded the permissible £105 million threshold, resulting in a loss of £124.5 million, as determined during a recent five-day hearing.
Expressing shock and disappointment, Everton stated their intention to appeal, emphasizing their transparency and respect for the process. They contested the finding of not acting in good faith and criticized the severity of the sanction, deeming it unfair.
